[POSTPONED] Exhibition and book launch: Portraits of Anthony Burgess
- Thu 19 Mar 2020

It is with regret that we have to postpone this launch due to coronavirus concerns and the subsequent temporary closure of our cafe and exhibition space. The exhibition is going nowhere, and will be well worth a visit once we are, eventually, open again.
Anthony Burgess was one of the most photographed writers of the twentieth century.
Our new exhibition presents portraits of Burgess from our collection of over 9,000 images, paintings and sculpture, a rich document of his life and work created by leading artists and by his family and friends including rare pictures ranging from his childhood in Manchester to his later life in Malaya, Italy, Monaco and all over the world.
The show coincides with a new edition from Manchester University Press of Anthony Burgess’s musical autobiography This Man and Music. With fascinating insights into the connections between literature and music combined with memoir and reflections on his own creative practice, this book is the latest in the Irwell Edition of the Works of Anthony Burgess and contains extra reviews, articles and a new introduction by the editor, Christine Lee Gengaro.
Join us to celebrate at a special reception on 19 March, 6-8pm.
