This new exhibition at Manchester Central Library charts Burgess’s early years in the city: from the Catholic schools he attended in Moss Side and Victoria Park; his undergraduate studies at the University of Manchester and regular visits to the Church of the Holy Name, Manchester Central Library and the Free Trade Hall. Featuring photographs from the Manchester Local Image Collection and the archive at the Burgess Foundation, this exhibition reveals the landscape of Burgess’s Manchester from the 1920s to the 1940s presented alongside images of the city as it appears today. Join us for the opening event at 6pm, Thursday 11 June, following which the exhibition will be available to view in the Reading Room and Henry Watson Music Library during library opening hours until Monday 20th July.
